Maldives on Every Budget: From โ‚น70K to Ultra-Luxury

The Maldives has a reputation as an ultra-luxury, ultra-expensive destination — and at the top end, that's true. But the islands actually offer a genuinely wide range of budgets, especially since local-island guesthouses opened to tourism. Here's what each budget tier actually gets you, so you can choose the Maldives experience that fits your trip.

Budget: ₹65,000–₹90,000 per couple (4 nights)

Local-island guesthouses on islands like Maafushi, Thulusdhoo and Gulhi offer comfortable, clean rooms a short walk from white-sand beaches, at a fraction of resort-island prices. You won't get an overwater villa, but you get the same turquoise water and excellent snorkeling, plus the chance to explore local Maldivian culture and food — something resort-only stays never offer. Budget for ₹3,000–₹5,000/night for guesthouse accommodation.

Mid-Range: ₹1,40,000–₹2,20,000 per couple (4 nights)

This tier opens up 3- and 4-star resort islands with beach villas (not overwater), all-inclusive meal plans, and resort-organized water sports. You get the classic "private island resort" experience — just without the overwater bungalow price tag. Many honeymoon couples find this tier offers the best value: genuine resort luxury at roughly half the cost of 5-star overwater properties.

Luxury: ₹3,00,000–₹5,50,000 per couple (4 nights)

This is the Maldives of postcards — private overwater villas with glass floor panels, infinity pools, butler service and direct lagoon access. Five-star resort brands in this tier typically include full-board dining, daily excursions, and exceptionally private settings, often on islands with a single resort and limited guest capacity for maximum seclusion.

Ultra-Luxury: ₹6,00,000+ per couple (4 nights)

At the very top, expect multi-bedroom overwater residences, private chefs, personal butlers, seaplane transfers included, and some of the most exclusive resort brands in the world. This tier is less about the islands themselves — which look similar across budgets — and more about an extraordinary level of personalized service.

The Hidden Cost Everyone Forgets: Transfers

Seaplane transfers to remote resort islands can cost ₹25,000–₹45,000 per person round-trip — sometimes nearly as much as the accommodation itself. Always check whether your resort uses speedboat transfer (cheaper, included on many mid-range properties) or seaplane (pricier, common for remote luxury resorts) before comparing prices across properties.

Whichever tier fits your trip, the Maldives' turquoise lagoons and white sand are consistent across every budget — the difference is really about how much privacy, service and overwater luxury you want layered on top.
